The uncirculated coin marks the second numismatic release of the year for the Mint, with the first being Tuesday’s issuance of the 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set.

On Wednesday, January 11, the United States Mint changed the 2010-P Mount Hood 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin status from available to "sold out." When it happened, the Mount Hood coin finally joined the ranks of the previous four 2010-dated coins in the series.

According to the latest sales stats, a little more than a hundred were left as of Monday, January 9, when 26,831 out of 27,000 had been ordered. No waiting list was announced for the issue, and perhaps it was due to the coin’s slow sales ending. Read More…

With a price tag of $41.95, which is the same as the 2011 set, the U.S. Mint is offering the product at a $14.90 premium based on the current spot silver price of $29.92 per ounce. The latest US Mint sales show the Mount Hood 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin is 431 away from selling out

The new year opened with fiery hot Silver Eagle bullion sales, while silver coins for collectors mostly exceeded their prior week’s gains thanks to price cuts. The latest United States Mint figures showed all but two silver products outperformed.

2012 Silver Eagle bullion sales climbed another 175,000 after starting the new year at 3,197,000, which moved the new total to 3,372,000. Some of those orders, however, included leftover 2011-dated strikes.

As for the bullion coin’s December total, it stayed at 2,009,000. So, 2011 wrapped up with 39,868,500 in Silver Eagle sales, just 131,500 short of the 40 million milestone. Still, 39+ million went down in history as the highest annual sales record for the 25 year old series of .999 fine silver coins. Read More…

2012 Silver Eagle Bullion Coin Sales Debut at 3.197 Million

American Silver Eagle Bullion Coin

The United States Mint began selling its 2012 American Silver Eagle bullion coins to its network of Authorized Purchasers on Tuesday, January 3, marking the 26th year in the series.

A remarkable 3,197,000 Silver Eagles were ordered on the first business day, according to the Mint’s most recent published sales figures. This number is up compared to last year’s first day, when 1,696,000 of the .999 fine silver coins were ordered.

A portion of the 3+ million included 2011-dated Silver Eagles since some remained available in the U.S. Mint’s inventory at the year-end, according to a memo to the Authorized Purchasers. The older coins are being sold on a 4:1 ratio with the newer ones until they are gone. It has not been announced yet how many were left. Read More…
