Mount Hood 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin

On Wednesday, January 11, the United States Mint changed the 2010-P Mount Hood 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin status from available to "sold out." When it happened, the Mount Hood coin finally joined the ranks of the previous four 2010-dated coins in the series.

According to the latest sales stats, a little more than a hundred were left as of Monday, January 9, when 26,831 out of 27,000 had been ordered. No waiting list was announced for the issue, and perhaps it was due to the coin’s slow sales ending.

The Mount Hood silver coin launched on July 28, 2011 and 14,759 had been ordered in the first few days. The order limit of one per household was removed in early September. In all, it took 167 days, or about five and a half months, to sell out. The Mount Hood silver coin was the last 2010-dated issue. Currently, four of the five 2011 coins have been released (the forth celebrating Vicksburg launched just today). None of these have sold out, but they also have a higher mintage level of 33,000 each.

In other silver coin news, the Uncirculated Silver Eagle led weekly numismatic U.S. Mint sales with its jump of 3,122. The next closest contender was the 2011 Silver Proof Set that added 1,782 to its total. All of the silver products were down compared to their previous weekly sales increase.

Bullion Silver Eagle sales remained hot and climbed by another 1,060,000 causing January’s total to clock in at 4,257,000 in the first eleven days. Already the month has doubled its December sales and is the highest since last September when 4,460,500 sold.
