In a move expected by many, the United States Mint has indicated that its entire mintage of 100,000 of the 25th Anniversary American Silver Eagle Set has already been ordered by its customers — all in about 4 and 1/2 hours.
While not officially sold out, the Mint has placed a "Waiting List Notice" on the Silver Eagle set’s product page. This news will not be particularly surprising to most familiar with the release, especially those that attempted to order the sets in the first few hours of their availability.
[Editor’s Update: On Friday morning, the United States Mint officially said the sets had sold out.]
The Mint released the 25th Anniversary Set at Noon (Eastern), Thursday, October 27, 2011. Visitors to the Mint’s website realized significant issues as the site continually failed to respond as it was hammered by countless individuals attempting to place their orders. Website issues started a few minutes before the set went on sale and lingered for hours as literally thousands of orders were being taken. Read More…
25th Anniversary American Silver Eagle Set Released
October 27, 2011 by Silver Coins Today Staff · 9 Comments
Collectors on Thursday scrambled to place an order for the 25th Anniversary American Silver Eagle Set, released by the United States Mint at noon ET for $299.95.
Some were successful, and many failed — at least during the first hour and a half when the Mint’s website (http://catalog.usmint.gov) was down more than up, and its customer service phone lines were too busy to get through for placing orders.
The anniversary set is an exciting product for collectors with its five 2011-dated American Silver Eagle coins. Many expect a sell-out given its 100,000 limit, five-coin coin per household limit, and — most important, the likelihood that two of the Silver Eagles will be sold by the Mint exclusively through the set. Grand Canyon National Park 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin
After a spectacular week of gains in the previous round of sales figures, the latest numbers from the United States Mint showed the enthusiasm abated somewhat for silver products. 2011 Proof Silver Eagles still topped the chart but were not as hot as before. The biggest plunge, however, was to the sold out Grand Canyon 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin.
Proof Silver Eagles recently climbed by another 11,995 following their spike of 16,015 in the prior report. Their new sales hit 783,787, or 91.1% of the sales total achieved by the 2010 Proof Silver Eagles which was 860,000. Read More…

The strike is the second one dated 2011 and the seventh collector issue in the America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins™ series.
The Mint listed the Glacier silver uncirculated coin for $229.95, a price matching the previous two issues still available — the 2010 Mount Hood silver coin for Oregon and the 2011 Gettysburg silver coin for Pennsylvania. Pricing was lowered from 279.95 in early October on these two coins when silver dropped some $10 an ounce, meaning large swings in precious metals can result in price adjustments. Read More…
