9/11 National Silver Medal

US Mint sales totals for the 9/11 commemorative medals have fallen for two straight weeks.

After two straight weekly declines, sales of the American Silver Eagle uncirculated coin finally came through with a positive increase on the week.

Due to their suspension in late September and resulting $9.50 price cut, their two previous weekly sales totals had been trimmed 424 and 11,476, respectively, as cancellations and returns were processed. Finally, the latest sales report from the US Mint has the uncirculated Silver Eagle 8,827 higher than the week before, bringing their current sales tally to 190,927.

Showing in the sales table with a more impressive increase was the proof Silver Eagle, advancing 16,015 to 771,792. The proof was the Mint’s best performing numismatic product of the week. The popular Silver Eagle had gained 3,674 during the previous week. Suspended during the same time as the companion uncirculated coin and also the recipient of a $9.50 price snipping, its weekly sales had only fallen to the negative once, by 578 during the first full week of October.

On the flip side, the commemorative 9/11 Medals are still trying to catch a break. One or more of the medals have been moving in the opposite direction in three of the last five weeks. Marking two straight weekly declines, the 9/11 Medals dropped by 9,250 in the latest US Mint report. The medal minted in West Point fell the furthest. Its total was cut 7,622 to 91,789. The medal struck in Philadelphia declined 1,628 to 59,701.
