US Mint Suspends Collector Silver Eagles, ATB Coins and Set Products

Collectors looking to purchase many United States Mint products, including collectible Silver Eagles, America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins, and certain sets, will have to wait to place their orders.

The 2011-W Proof and Uncirculated Silver Eagles, shown above, are among the products suspended by the United States Mint on Monday.

The Mint suspended most of its numismatic silver products for possible price adjustments due to volatility in precious metals. This is not the first time that the Mint has halted product sales, but it does mark a change in the reason for their suspensions. Read More…

The United States Mint made the 2011-P Gettysburg National Military Park 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin available today, September 22, 2011, at Noon (Eastern Time) for $279.95.

The United States Mint sent the following image of the 2011-P Gettysburg 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin within an e-mail to customers promoting the coin’s release.

Gettysburg uncirculated coins have a maximum mintage of 35,000, but the Mint is limiting orders to five per household. Both caps are higher than the 2010-dated designs that represent the inaugural year strikes. Read More…

US Mint Sales: 2011 American Silver Eagle Uncirculated Coin Debuts

The United States Mint published the debuting sales figures for the 2011-W American Silver Eagle Uncirculated Coin which was made available Thursday, September 15, 2011. After just five days, the newest American Silver Eagle opened with 184,967 in sales. That number translates to over $11 million for the Mint, since each uncirculated coin is priced at $60.45.

The brisk sales may account for the extra spring in a few older products’ higher numbers. Both uncirculated commemorative coins outperformed their prior week’s gains, as did all of the sets and the 2011 American Silver Eagle Proof Coin. The uncirculated Medal of Honor dollar rose by 84 and the uncirculated Army dollar increased by 86 after adding only 54 and 65 to their sales in the previous round. Read More…

Australian 2012 Year of the Dragon Silver Bullion Coins were released by the Perth Mint of Australia (http://www.perthmint.com.au/) earlier this month. The Year of the Dragon coins are issued in 99.9% pure silver in seven different sizes, including 10 kilo, 1 kilo, 10 ounce, 5 ounce, 2 ounce, 1 ounce and 1/2 ounce.

The United States Mint began selling the collectible 2011-W American Silver Eagle Uncirculated Coin today at Noon (Eastern Time), ending a two year absence.

The Silver Eagles are available directly from the Mint for $60.45 per coin, plus the Mint’s standard shipping and handling charge of $4.95 per order. There are no household order limits in place or a stated maximum mintage.

Each uncirculated coin is struck at the United States Mint facility in West Point, and therefore has the denoting "W" mint mark. The coin is composed of one ounce of 99.9% pure silver and features Adolph A. Weinman’s "Walking Liberty" design on the obverse, just like the associated proof and bullion versions released earlier in the year. Read More…

Overall, collectors were less active in buying coins following Labor Day Weekend than the prior week, the latest US Mint sales data revealed. The only US Mint numismatic silver product to experience increased demand was the  2010-P Mount Hood National Forest 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin.

After nearly six weeks since the launch of the Mount Hood coin, the United States Mint removed its order limits. The move gave enthusiasts a chance to scoop up as many of the America the Beautiful coins as they wanted, and it doubled Mount Hood’s weekly sales gain from 449 in the prior report to 1,194 in the latest round. The result: 5,712 of the maximum 27,000 mintage remain. Read More…

Collectors can again purchase silver sets that the United States Mint took off sale following a meteoric rise in silver prices.

2010-dated sets, which include the Silver Proof Set and America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set, were pulled from Mint store shelves on September 2 when silver prices surged nearly $2 to a high of $43.50 an ounce.

Credited to falling precious metals prices, the sets returned to availability on September 12 at prices that were unchanged — $64.95 for the Silver Proof Set and $39.95 for the America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set. Read More…
