The Perth Mint of Australia has added another option to its popular koala bullion coin series — the 2011 Australian Koala 1/10 oz Silver Coin.
This new Australian Koala silver coin pushes the number of sizes available in the series to five. It joins the 1/2 oz, 1 oz, 10 ounce, and 1 kilo bullion coins. The Perth likely added the smaller offering in response to the silver market which has been making advances into prices not seen in over 30 years. By adding the 1/10 oz Koala Coin to their line-up, the Perth has affordable options for anyone interested in obtaining at least one of the unique coins. Read More…

US Mint Sales: Silver Eagle Bullion Coins Seize 9 Million Milestone
February 23, 2011 by Silver Coins Today · Leave a Comment

American Silver Eagle coins have just surged past the 9 million milestone for 2011. But while the bullion eagles and the market price of silver may be blasting off, demand for US Mint numismatic silver products is retreating. The two most popular items in the prior US Mint sales report, the 2011 Silver Proof Sets and the US Army Silver Dollar Commemorative Coins, underperformed in this round.
The Silver Proof Set remained the top contender, but 14,116 sold versus 24,630 and 23,151 in the previous two rounds. A gradual decline is normal following a fresh release, so it was actually the performance last week that was out of the ordinary. The set launched on January 25. By Sunday, February 20, its total landed at 271,264, which was slightly more than 50% of the current total for the 2010 Silver Proof Set. Read More…

While silver prices eventually settled toward the $33 level — still at a 31-year closing high in New York, the melt value of silver coins remained on fire. Value comparisons of older and modern coins and sets between various dates highlight the sharp increases. Read More…

24,630 of the new Silver Proof Sets sold in this round, which was higher than the previous report’s weekly gain of 23,151. The 2011 set has only been on the market about 18 days, and usually sales decline for a longer period before their weekly sales start to fluctuate. Regardless of why sales outperformed, the new total hit 257,148. Read More…

Secondary market prices for the 5-ounce 2010 America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins™ are on the decline. While not entirely surprising to all, the news is welcomed by many who have been patiently waiting for the market to correct what they felt were unrealistic price points.
The ATB series is no stranger to cost concerns. The planned December 6, 2010, release was put on hold by the US Mint after multiple reports of premiums that brought single coin prices into the $300 range. Read More…
