US Mint Freezes Sales of Some Silver Coins, Announces Price Increases

Prospective buyers on Wednesday were locked out from purchasing more than a dozen silver coins offered by the United States Mint.

The 2012-W Proof American Silver Eagle was one of more than a dozen silver products that were suspended for re-pricing.
Since silver "has been trading in a range of $30.00-$35.00 per ounce since August 23, 2012," stated the Mint, it halted sales of its numismatic products containing American Silver Eagles or America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins so it could increase their prices. Read More…

U.S. Mint sales of American Silver Eagle bullion coins surged in September, realizing double digit percent gains over August and ranking in the top fifteen for all-time monthly sales.
3,255,000 bullion Silver Eagles were ordered in September by U.S. Mint authorized purchasers, marking a 13.4% increase from the 2,870,000 sold in August. The rally is more notable when considering that August came in 26.0% higher than July. Read More…

U.S. silver prices closed September with a final day loss, but still scored significant monthly and quarterly gains.
On Friday, silver prices for December delivery settled to $34.58 an ounce on the Comex in New York, dipping 8.9 cents or 0.3%. Silver traded from an intraday low of $34.33 an ounce to a high of $34.93 an ounce. Losses were attributed to a stronger U.S. dollar and profit-taking. Read More…

U.S. Mint numismatic silver products with the biggest weekly sales were 2012-W Proof Silver Eagles, 2012 Silver Proof Sets and 2012-W Uncirculated Silver Eagles. Demand, however, eased slightly compared to the prior week, but sales were high enough for the Silver Proof Set to hit a milestone.

2012 Silver Proof Sets surpassed 300,000 in sales.
In the latest round of coin sales, 2012-W Proof Silver Eagles shot up by 31,964 orders after adding 41,853 previously. Read More…
