Silver Prices Rise 2% for the Week, Eagle Coins Up 1.1M

Weekly Silver UpdateU.S. weekly silver prices advanced 2.0% after tumbling 7.4% during the prior week and registering their biggest fall since February 5.

New York silver futures moved narrowly through the holiday-shortened week. 0.8% increases were posted on Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by a loss of 0.7% on Thursday.

Silver for September delivery closed to its highest point of $18.073 an ounce on Friday, rising 20.1 cents or 1.3% for the day and marking a weekly gain of 35.4 cents. Its weekly intraday high was also on Friday, at $18.235.

"While the gold market seems to be fostering talk of bargain-hunting buying on dips, the silver market hasn’t seen much chatter on that subject," noted Neil Sloan via StockMarketsReview.com on Thursday. "The silver market still looks to be marching to the physical commodity market drummer." added Sloan.

Based on New York futures closing prices, the current gold to silver ratio retreated to 66.9 to 1, as compared to last week when 1 ounce of gold could buy 68.2 ounces of silver.

The London silver fix ended at $17.870 an ounce, falling 11 cents or 0.6% for the week. Its highest price was on Thursday at $18.00 an ounce.

July Silver Eagle sales through to the 10th are already at 1,101,000, marking a year to date total of 19,269,500.
