US Mint Sales: Bullion Eagles Rise 100K, Silver Sets Slow

US Mint silver coin salesIt was an unusually slow week for U.S. silver coin products, even for silver bullion. Only one numismatic item outperformed its prior week’s gains, but just barely. The biggest sales gap, however, was in American Silver Eagles.

Since last Tuesday, August 10, and as of this writing, only 100,000 bullion 2010 American Silver Eagles were sold, compared to 567,000 in a five day period in the previous report. At least the year-to-date total broke the 22 million milestone, by hitting 22,092,000. Collectors hoping for 2010 proof versions are probably relieved to see the bullion’s change of pace.

The one item to improve was the uncirculated American Veterans Disabled for Life silver dollar. 219 sold compared to 217 previously. The proof version cooled somewhat. They advanced 497 while their last gain had been 799.

Still moving powerfully, yet slightly gentler, was the 2010 Quarters Silver Proof Set. Sales were again a touch slower, jumping by 4,695 compared to 5,230. The 2009 DC and Territories Quarters Silver Proof Set increased by 621.

The latest 5 oz silver coin release information from the Mint indicates an order for 500,000 planchets is expected to be placed within days, and that the bullion coins, which will bear the same design as the America the Beautiful Quarters, could be ready for sale later this fall.

The following are the latest silver product sales figures:
