US Mint Sales: Silver Coin Products Slow

US Mint silver coin salesSales of 2011 American Silver Eagle bullion coins continued to climb in January as each new order marks a new record for the series. Demand for other US Mint coin products, however, generally declined, according to the latest round of statistics.

The bullion Silver Eagles’ total moved up to 4,724,000 after US Mint Authorized Purchasers bought another 136,000 since last Wednesday. 4.7 million is the new all-time highest monthly record for the silver coins.

The record will be broken again before the month ends. However, Silver Eagle bullion sales have notably stalled since an increase was reported on Friday.

For a third straight week, American Silver Eagle proof coins remained unchanged at 860,000. They sold out in late December but the US Mint had been making small adjustments to their sales levels. It looks like last year’s issue will have to keep its title of Third Best for the proof series. The new 2011 proofs are not scheduled for release until early July.

The 2010 Silver Proof Set lost some of its steam because it only grew by 2,711 versus 4,424 from the previous report. Its new total rung in at 526,225.

The only other available silver offering from the US Mint was the 2010 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set. It had a slow week too, creeping upwards by 1,189 compared to 1,323 and 2,004 in the previous two rounds.

The big day for the 2011 Silver Proof Set came. The set was issued, Tuesday the 25th, at 12:00 PM noon Eastern Time. Collectors will be spending decent amounts of money this week to get them.

The next silver product in the US Mint’s pipeline is the 2011 United States Army Commemorative Silver $1 Dollar Coin, which is scheduled to be released next Monday, January 31.
