US Mint Silver Coin Sales Slump in First Week of February

It was a down U.S. Mint week in the silver coin arena. Weekly sales for five silver products actually went negative while just one beat its prior week’s gain.
United States Mint sales of 2014 and 2015 Proof American Eagle Silver Coins declined
Dropping the most was the 2015-W Proof American Silver Eagle Coin. Logging a decline of -3,439 meant its total slid to 300,645. Returns, cancellations, and internal audits may account for the drastic change. In the previous report, the Silver Eagles shot up by 15,598.
Others losing ground included last year’s proof Silver Eagles and three of the America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins. Those were the ones that honored Everglades National Park, Arches National Park, and Shenandoah National Park.
On the upside, the biggest movers were 2015 US Marshals Service 225th Anniversary Silver Dollars. The proof silver dollars jumped 14,520 and the uncirculated dollars added 2,336. The Marshals Three-Coin Proof Sets also fared well, advancing 2,140.
The one product to experience a week-over-week increase was the 2014 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set. Collectors bought 645 in this round after picking up 372 in the prior week.
