Yosemite Coin Wait List Returns, Proof Silver Eagle Sales Soar

The United States Mint sent the following image of the 2010-P Yosemite National Park 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin within an e-mail to customers promoting the coin’s release.Collectors ordered the final Yosemite National Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins in the last few days, per the United States Mint’s recently reinstated wait list notice on its online ordering page.

The wait list had inadvertently appeared once before, but the Mint removed it last week along with Yosemite coin ordering limits. The move must have caused a stir, since another 1,402 sold in seven days, leaving just 260 available as of Monday, July 18.

The waiting list notice is meant to indicate the maximum number of orders have been taken, which in the case of the Yosemite coin was 27,000. All additional orders will go on a waiting list. If the uncirculated coin becomes available due to an order cancellation, then it can still be sold using the first-in, first-served order basis.

The availability of the Grand Canyon coin continued to be whittled away as well. The latest US Mint’s sales figures revealed 1,192 more were picked up, meaning 4,974 were left.

But neither of those coins were the hottest sellers. The numismatic product to make the biggest splash during the past week was the 2011 Proof Silver Eagle coin, again. Sales increased by 52,050 and outperformed last week’s jump of 40,368. The latest advance pushed the Proof Silver Eagle total up to 460,041.

Sales of bullion Silver Eagle soared too. Authorized buyers took in 856,000 since last Wednesday, up from 727,500 in the last round. The total for July did not clear 2 million though, as it rested at 1,969,500. Annual sales winded up at 24,273,000.
