On Monday, June 4, at 12 noon ET, the United States Mint made the 2012 Silver Proof Set available. Pricing for the set came to $67.95, after the U.S. Mint added nearly $30 for the premium based on the current price of silver at $28.16 per ounce.

The U.S. Mint 2012 Silver Proof Set is priced at $67.95

Seven of the 14 coins are composed of 90% silver, which add to 1.338 ounces for a current set melt value of $37.68. The other coins are clad. All 14 coins have a combined face value of $6.91.

Similar to the 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set that has been on the market since January 10, the latest Silver Proof Set has all five of this year’s quarters honoring El Yunque National Forest Quarter in Puerto Rico, Chaco Culture National Historical Park Quarter in New Mexico, Acadia National Park Quarter in Maine, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park Quarter in Hawaii, and Denali National Park and Preserve Quarter in Alaska.

The latest set also has the four Presidential dollars featuring Chester Arthur, Grover Cleveland (first term), Benjamin Harrison, and Grover Cleveland (second term), plus the Native American dollar, the Kennedy half-dollar, the Roosevelt dime, the Jefferson nickel and the Lincoln cent.

Those that contain 90% silver are the half-dollar, the five quarters, and the dime.

All of the coins are minted in proof quality and bear the "S" mint mark of San Francisco, the government facility known for its collector-oriented strikes. They are sealed in special, clear cases to protect their finish. A U.S. Mint Certificate of Authenticity is also included within the packaging.

Orders for the 2012 Silver Proof Set may be placed at the U.S. Mint online store, or via the toll-free number of 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). Hearing and speech-impaired customers with TTY equipment may place their order by calling 1-888-321-MINT (6468).

As usual, a $4.95 fee for shipping and handling is applied to all domestic orders.

There is still time to order last year’s set as well. It has been available since January 25, 2011 for the same price. As of last Monday, May 28, 2012, collectors have taken in 561,425 of the 2011 edition.
