With all 2014 Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Silver Coins sold out and no products debuting, buyers returned their attention to Silver Eagles, the latest United States Mint sales stats revealed. Both the proof and uncirculated 99.9% pure silver coins dominated in this precious metal category. The bullion version exploded as well.

Sales have been racing for collectible and bullion American Silver Eagle coins

In its 13th week on the charts, the 2014-W Proof Silver Eagle soared by 25,926 to hit 484,075 by Sunday, April 20. No other numismatic product could keep that pace. Next week’s report might look a little similar, since the Proof Silver Eagles will not have much competition for consumers’ pocketbooks until later in the month, April 29, when the next annual Silver Proof Set hits the market.

Climbing to second place for silver products was the 2014-W Uncirculated Silver Eagle. Orders reached 5,009 which meant total sales rose to 111,358. The uncirculated versions have only been available since April 10, 2014, so last week was technically the first full week of sales.

Rounding out third was the Great Smoky Mountains Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin, still fresh on the market too with its April 7 start date. Consumers scooped up 1,426 recently, leaving only 2,159 available from the Mint. This year’s first America the Beautiful five ounce silver coin has a mintage limit of 25,000.

In bullion products, the bullion version of the five ounce Great Smoky Mountains coin temporarily sold out on Monday at 23,000 but the U.S. Mint said it will have more available within a few weeks. Also, sales of bullion Silver Eagles topped year-to-date sales of 17 million. This year’s coins and last year’s coins are now swapping sales leadership positions. On Tuesday, the 17 million mark was the quickest it had been reached in the history of the Silver Eagle series, just above last year’s record pace. The 2014-dated coins climbed another 50,000 on Wednesday, but last year’s increase at the same time was higher so 2013 sales through the April 23 are now a bit higher than this year. Silver Eagle coins have been produced annually since 1986.

In the table below are the latest sales stats for collector silver coins and related products from the US Mint. Sunday, April 20, is the “as of” date.
