2014 Silver Proof Sets and Proof Silver Eagles Move Quickest

New United States Mint sales stats show that 2014 Silver Proof Sets and 2014 Proof Silver Eagles moved faster than other numismatic silver products. High demand for the sets and Silver Eagles is explainable, since the sets are still a new item for collectors, having only been on the market since April 29, and the Eagles are traditionally top-selling pieces.

2014 Silver Proof Sets advanced another 12,169 during their first full week of availability, with new figures revealing a total of 195,689 have been purchased. Their inaugural sales number was 183,520. Annual issues of the set containing seven 90% silver coins should end up with sales of around 400,000 or more by the time the US Mint pulls them from their arsenal.

Next highest on the week were 2014-W Proof Silver Eagles with unit sales up 8,488. This was a slowdown compared to the 13,997 scooped up in the prior round. In all, the US Mint has sold 524,212 since their release in January.

Other notables from the sales report include new totals for the now sold out 2013 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set, which dropped by 260 to 48,074, and the Great Smoky Mountain Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins, which inched a little closer to a sellout status with an advance of 447 to 24,043.

In next week’s report, expect the new Shenandoah silver coin to top the sales chart. This latest five-ounce coin went on sale earlier today for $154.95.
