US Mint Sales: Silver Coins and Sets Move Quickly

Silver coins and sets were big shakers for the second week in a row, per the United Sates Mint latest sales stats.
Weekly US Mint sales of the 2013 Silver Proof Set have been consistently higher of late
2013-W Proof Silver Eagles maintained a quick pace along with 2013 Silver Proof Sets, while the 2013 American Silver Eagle West Point Two-Coin Set made headlines over the weekend when its ending sales fell 45,621 to 235,689.
Sales of the 2013 Silver Proof Set ran up 7,839 in this new round to clock in at 341,386 overall. The set includes 14 proof quality coins with seven of those struck in 90 percent silver. Sales climbed 6,842 in the prior report after adding 4,164 during the second week of October.
The 2013-W Proof Silver Eagle hit 821,392 after gaining 9,267 new orders. At the same time, it topped last year’s individual sales of 818,217 and, as explained in last week’s sales report, that could mean they are moving toward a sellout. The latest weekly level is down, however, from the prior 14,243 surge that was timed with the arrival of the Mint’s 2013 Holiday Catalog.
2013 America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins are moving a bit quicker. The three most recent weekly gains went from 600, to 960 to the most recent 1,156. Sales will really blast off next week when the US Mint releases the 2013-P Mount Rushmore Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin on Nov. 7.
Meanwhile, in the bullion arena, the bullion Silver Eagle’s total is closing in on a new annual record. US Mint Authorized Purchasers need to buy just 693,500 more to match the reigning title-holder in 2011 when the bullion coins reached 39,868,500.
