American Eagle 2015 Silver Bullion Sales End at All-Time Record

Popularity of American Eagle silver coins hit an all-time high in 2015. Silver Eagle bullion sales ended on Tuesday, December 15, at a new annual record for the United States Mint at 47,000,000 coins.
2015 bullion sales of American Eagle silver coins topped the prior annual record by 6.8%.
As a comparison, the previous record was set in 2014 with year-end sales totaling 44,006,000 coins. And, similar to last year and recent others, demand was higher than supply with not enough silver planchets to make the coins, so the U.S. Mint rationed their sales through most of 2015.
"To add further perspective to the demand for Silver Bullion Coins, for the first 22 years of the American Eagle Silver Bullion Coin Program, the Mint typically sold between three million and 10 million ounces per year," the United States Mint said in a news release. "Since 2007, sales have increased nearly five-fold from 9,887,000 in 2007 to more than 44 million last year."
Right now the Mint is striking 2016-dated American Eagle silver bullion coins. January 11 is the launch date of these 1-ounce .999 pure silver coins for investors.
"The Mint’s West Point facility currently produces all American Eagle gold, silver, and platinum and American Buffalo Bullion Coins in addition to other precious metal numismatic products," the Mint said. "The facility operates with three shifts with employees working overtime to help meet demand."
On the collector side, weekly sales of the 2015 Silver Proof Set shot up by 10,580 to 337,508 and nabbed the top spot among silver numismatic products. In second place were 2015-W Proof American Silver Eagles. They jumped by 7,515 to reach 686,912.
