Baseball Hall of Fame Silver Coins Lead Sales

Newly released 2014 National Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coins reaped strong buying support between their launch on Thursday, March 27 through to Sunday, March 30. Early sales show 389,905 sold, and 228,525 of those were the silver coins.

Detailed in an earlier article, the United States Mint produced gold, silver, and clad baseball coins with curved sides in proof and uncirculated collector qualities. Mintage limits are in place according to the law, but temporary household order limits arose due to high anticipated demand. In sum, households are allowed up to 50 gold, 100 silver, and 100 clad coins each.
The Baseball Hall of Fame silver coins proved most popular, as seen below. They were followed by the clad half-dollars and then the more expensive $5 gold coins which sold out.

Debuting numismatic offerings, including the Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coins and the Mint’s annual 2014 Poof Set, had a positive impact on other silver coins and coin sets. All but the 2013 Annual Uncirculated Dollar Coin Set experienced week-over-week sales increases. Demand for 2014-W Proof American Silver Eagles was higher, with 19,087 selling last week compared to 13,938 previously.
