Canadian $20 Silver Royal Wedding Coin Nears Sell Out

The Royal Canadian Mint on Wednesday warned in an email notice to customers that its Canadian $20 Silver Royal Wedding Coin was approaching a sell out.

The Royal Wedding Coin, struck from 99.99% pure silver, has a worldwide mintage of 25,000. The Mint indicated 84% had already been sold since its release on April 6.

The commemorative $20 silver coin honors the wedding of HRH Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton which will occur on April 29. The coin design depicts the couple gazing into each other’s eyes with maple leaves and a stylized Tudor rose surrounding the edge. A sapphire-colored Swarovski crystal at the bottom symbolizes the world-renowned 18-carat sapphire engagement ring which Prince William presented to Catherine Middleton last October.

"The Royal Canadian Mint has a long history of honoring royal milestones through finely crafted collector coins and the upcoming wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton is a priceless opportunity to celebrate Canada’s pride in royal tradition", stated Ian E. Bennett, President and CEO of the Royal Canadian Mint.

Inscriptions featured on the Royal Wedding Coin reverse include CANADA20 DOLLARS, and 2011. The silver coin also has an encused edge with laser-engraved names HRH Prince William & Miss Catherine Middleton — SAR le prince William et Mlle Catherine Middleton.

Struck in a proof finish, with a diameter of 38 mm and a weight of 31.39 grams, the Canadian $20 Silver Royal Wedding Coin is available for $104.95 CAD. It may be purchased directly from the Royal Canadian Mint website at www.mint.ca.

The Mint indicates it will begin shipping the commemorative silver coin on May 2.
