Mint Sales Stats: Great Basin Silver Coins Begin at 8,819

In the US Mint silver numismatic arena, sales opened Thursday, July 25, for the 2013-P Great Basin National Park 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin.

The new issue celebrates the park located in Nevada. By Sunday, July 28, collectors ordered 8,819 of them.

Starting sales for the Great Basin coin topped inaugural numbers for the prior Perry’s Victory coin, which had 7,966. They were, however, behind the debut of the silver coin depicting White Mountain National Forest. It, being the first 2013-dated coin in the ATB 5 ounce series, claimed the best opening since 2012 after earning 10,605 initial orders.

Another product collectors kept their eyes on last week was the 2013-W American Silver Eagle Proof Coin. Its sales spiked 26,962 following a week where it rose by 10,347. Its latest sales total clocked in at 636,680.

Demand last week actually firmed for all silver coins and related products, excluding the proof and uncirculated Girl Scouts Silver Dollars. But these commemoratives saw their own boost in the prior week when the 2013 Girl Scouts Young Collectors Set launched and pulled extra attention to them.

All 2012-dated America the Beautiful Bullion Silver Coins sold out on March 1, 2013. The United States Mint released the bullion 2013 White Mountain silver coin on May 13, 2013; the 2013 Perry’s Victory silver coin on June 3; and the 2013 Great Basin silver coin on June 24.
