The 2012 Silver Proof Set beat the newcomer’s sales, helped by the holiday season. It was a strong week all-around for U.S. Mint silver products. All of them advanced more quickly than they had in the previous sales report.

Sales for the 2012 Silver Proof Set were double what they were the prior week: 8,422 versus 4,191 for a new sales total of 330,987. The sudden jump this late in the year is common, as consumers like to scoop up the popular sets for gifts. Based on last year’s sales trend, the 2012 Silver Proof Set might be the top silver seller until the U.S. Mint’s deadline for holiday shipping expires.

December 10 is the last day for standard delivery and December 17 is the last one for expedited delivery for any in-stock item to arrive at its intended destination by December 25, 2012.

The newly released Denali uncirculated coin was not far behind the proof sets. Collectors ordered 6,905, making the extra-large coin the second most popular item for the week. Its inaugural sales were not as strong as the Hawaii Volcanoes coin debut of 9,186 in September, but then again prices were $20 lower when it launched. The Denali coin was, however, higher than the collector Acadia silver uncirculated coin that opened in August with sales of 6,552.

Taking third place were 2012-W Uncirculated Silver Eagles. Their sales total grew 2,751 after gaining 827 in the previous round. With the 2012-W Proof Silver Eagle now sold out, sales of the uncirculated version may continue higher.
