Sales Rebound for Silver Eagle, Civil Rights Commemorative Coin Up

The dominate collector silver coin in the most recent United States Mint sales stats was, not surprisingly, the 2014-W Proof Silver Eagle. It was also only one of two items in this precious metal category to outperform its prior week’s sales.

After nose-diving 9,420 in the previous round, numbers for the 2014 Proof Silver Eagle coin rebounded and new orders during the week hit 20,857. That spike moved the total up to 386,045. The silver coins have been on sale since January 23.

The other coin with a week-over-week improvement, and for a second week in a row, was the 2014-P Civil Rights Act of 1964 Uncirculated Silver Dollar coin. Recent climbs dating back to mid-February were 241, then 260, and in this round, 274. To date, collectors have taken in 18,335 of the uncirculated commemorative coin.

Sales of Civil Rights Act of 1964 Silver Dollars in proof and uncirculated quality began on January 2, 2014. So far and as typical, the proof version has been more popular, with the latest total running up to 44,459.

Another group of commemorative coins are authorized to launch this year. They are the National Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coins in gold, silver and clad, and their release date is March 27. The U.S. Mint this week revealed images of the baseball coins.
