Proof Silver Eagle CoinThe United States Congress could help the United States Mint strike 2010 American Eagle Silver Proof Coins and 2010 American Eagle Silver Uncirculated Coins.

One part of a multifaceted bill recently introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives authorizes the U.S. Mint to produce the collector versions of the Silver Eagles even if that cut into the supply of bullion silver coins.

Current law only requires the U.S. Mint to manufacture sufficient bullion American Eagles to meet public demand, but it overlooks collector demand for numismatic versions. Read More…

US Mint silver coin salesSilver has definitely been receiving attention, and it showed in the most recent United States Mint sales figures. Every numismatic product was higher, beating the prior week’s gains for a second straight time. Bullion silver coins on the other hand cooled, but only a tad.

Even the 2010 Silver Proof Set outpaced its last impressive advance of 19,828 with another 22,244 added. Its at 339,564 after only one month on sale. In one more week, it is very likely that the 2010 set will pass the halfway marker achieved by 2009 Silver Proof Sets. The unofficial total from last year’s set came to 694,406. Read More…

A new bill introduced this week in Congress calls for the production of American Palladium Eagle coins that bear high-relief designs created by American sculptor Adolph A. Weinman.

House Resolution 6166, or the American Eagle Palladium Bullion Coin Act of 2010, would add bullion and collector Palladium Eagle coins to the U.S. Mint’s American Eagle product line, which already includes the American Silver Eagle, the American Gold Eagle and the American Platinum Eagle.

H.R. 6166, introduced by Rep. Denny Rehberg (R) from Montana on September 22, 2010, stipulates that each Palladium Eagle coin would be struck in .9995 fine palladium, weigh one troy ounce and have a denomination of $25. The bill would authorize bullion coins, intended for investors, and the option for the Treasury Secretary to approve the production of proof and uncirculated versions for collectors. Read More…

Silver Closes Week at Highest Price, Tops $21

Weekly Silver UpdateU.S. silver prices surged for a second straight week, jumping ahead 58.3 cents from last Friday and topping $21 an ounce for a fresh 30-year high.

Aside from a dip on Tuesday, daily closing prices increased through to Friday.

Silver for December delivery ended at $21.399 an ounce on the Comex in New York, marking a weekly increase of 2.8 percent after an increase of 4.9 percent last week. The week’s intraday high was also on Friday, at $21.490 an ounce. Read More…

US Mint Sales: Silver Proof Sets Spike, Eagle Coins Take Off

US Mint silver coin salesBuyers were all over bullion and numismatic silver products this past week, as sales spiked in the latest round of United States Mint data figures. Four of the items more than doubled their prior week’s gains.

The popular 2010 Silver Proof Set was on fire. Its weekly sales had been slowing consistently since its release on August 26, but that trend ended. The US Mint sold 19,828 of the sets, compared to 8,949 previously. Its new year-to-date total topped 300K by reaching 317,320.

The America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set was another popular item. 2,732 were scooped up, which was a solid gain over the prior 1,957. Read More…

Legislation Seeks Coin and Precious Metals Dealer Regulations

American Silver Eagle Bullion CoinA newly introduced House Resolution would add new dealer regulations when selling coins composed of gold, silver and other precious metals.

Proposed by Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) on September 16, 2010, the Coin and Precious Metal Disclosure Act (HR 6149) seeks to "require disclosures to consumers by coin and precious metal bullion dealers."

Congressman Weiner has initiated a campaign against companies he believes are charging too much for coins of gold and silver. Read More…

The first silver bullion issue in a new three-year Canadian Wildlife coin series was launched this month by the Royal Canadian Mint. The 2011 Silver Wolf coin debuted on September 9, 2010.

The investment grade one-ounce .9999 fine silver bullion coin features a unique design, limited 1,000,000 mintage and a $5 face value.

It is one in a minimum of six to launch at a rate of two each year (through 2013) that will showcase a distinct Canadian wildlife theme. Read More…
