Expanding on its world-renowned Australian Kangaroo bullion coin series, the Perth Mint of Australia has released theĀ 2010 Australian Kangaroo 1oz Silver Proof High Relief Coin.
This coin marks a departure, however, from the traditional kangaroo bullion series which, up until now, has only been struck from pure gold. The series itself debuted over twenty years ago and features an annually changing reverse design — a unique feature among world bullion coins. Read More…

US Mint 2010 Silver Eagles Top 2008 Sales in 6.5 Months
July 14, 2010 by Silver Coins Today · Leave a Comment
Fewer silver coins were purchased from the United States Mint in recent days. Collectors are instead spending their spare time enjoying the summer, perhaps lounging in hammocks sipping iced tea. Sales lagged for every coin and set. The biggest performers were once again bullion Silver Eagles and the new silver quarters proof sets, though neither came close to attaining their prior week’s levels.
601,000 American Silver Eagle bullion coins were scooped up by U.S. Mint authorized purchasers in the last seven days, but that falls short of the 875,500 taken during the previous week. Yet, it is only mid-July and 2010’s year-to-date total of 19,645,000 passed the end-of-year total for 2008, which was 19,583,500. As for July’s total, it reached 1,476,500. That is close to the pace set in June, when 1,724,500 were sold by the 16th. The 2009 annual record of 28,766,500 is within sight, with 2010 looking to be the new dominating year for the eagles in a few short months. Read More…
US Marshals Commemorative Gold and Silver Coins Proposed
July 13, 2010 by Silver Coins Today · Leave a Comment

The Marshals Service Star, shown here, would be depicted on the obverse of the gold and silver commemorative coins.
Newly introduced legislation, if passed into law, would authorize the United States Mint to strike commemorative gold and silver coins to celebrate the founding of the U.S. Marshals Service, America’s first law enforcement agency.
Entitled the United States Marshals Service 225th Anniversary Commemorative Coin Act and numbered H.R. 5680, the bill was reintroduced by Rep. John Boozman of Arkansas on July 1, 2010. The legislation is Boozman’s second version, following a nearly identical bill, H.R. 2799, he introduced on June 10, 2009.
H.R. 5680 calls for the U.S. Mint to strike up to 142,000 high-relief $5 gold coins and a maximum of 503,000 silver dollars. Both coins would include edge lettering of ‘Justice, Integrity, Service’, the Marshals Service motto. Read More…

US Mint Sales: Silver Eagles Top 19M, Collector Coins Slow
July 8, 2010 by Silver Coins Today · Leave a Comment
The latest US Mint sales figures have been released, and there were no standouts among the silver numismatic products, aside from the fact that the DAV commemorative coins did not do as well as they did in the prior week. None of the collector products outperformed their previous weekly gains. Bullion American Silver Eagle coins, on the other hand, are blazing forth.
The first seven days of the month have been bountiful for the bullion silver coins. 875,500 have been sold to authorized buyers. It may be too early to predict but if the pace continues, July will be another 3 million sales month for 2010. The total for the year is now above 19 million, which continues to add uncertainty that 2010 proof eagles will get minted this year at all. Last year’s numbers set a new record annual pace (at 28,766,500), resulting in the 2009 American Silver Eagle proof and uncirculated coin cancellations, to collector’s great disappointment. 2010 sales are much better through the first six months of the year as compared to the same period in 2009, or of any year in the history of the series which dates back to 1986.
