US Mint Sales: 2009 Silver Eagles Peak, Collector Coins Weak
December 30, 2009 by Silver Coins Today · Leave a Comment
The latest United States Mint sales report shows robust 2009 Silver Eagle bullion figures, but weakening numismatic silver coin demand.
The bullion Silver Eagles just came off their most recent suspension on Dec. 7. Since then, and despite their allocated or rationed distribution, the US Mint has sold 2,687,500 to their small group of authorized dealers, marking the second best December for Silver Eagles since they were launched in 1986. Another 281,500 more were purchased in the last seven days, bringing the annual record high to 28,680,500.
Action was significantly weaker on the numismatic front. Given the Christmas break and the fact that just two 2009-dated silver products are available at the Mint, slower sales should be expected. Even the Silver Proof Set which tends to have weekly increase of above 10,000 mustered only 6,465. Until 2010 coins begin to appear, the weekly sales report for collector coins will lack much excitement.
Most of the 2009 silver coin products are either sold out or no longer available, as the following tables of sales highlights.
