US Mint Sales: Fewer Yosemite Coins Remain, Silver Eagles Top 21.3M

2010-P Yosemite National Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin

Following a week of higher demand came a slower one for silver coins, the latest sales stats from the US Mint revealed. Silver sets and commemoratives cooled. Silver Eagles managed yet another milestone. And, a few thousand 2010-P Yosemite National Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins were picked up after a full week on the market.

2,593 more collectors purchased the Yosemite Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated coin, which still has the one coin per household ordering limit in place. That leaves just 3,896 in the Mint’s inventory as of Sunday, June 19. Of the 27,000 produced, 23,104 have sold since its launch on June 9, with 20,511 selling in the first four days.

Buyers also ordered fewer US Mint sets during the week than they had previously. The 2011 Silver Proof Set climbed 3,442 versus 5,335 while the 2011 America the Beautiful Silver Quarters Set gained 1,913 against 2,218.

The older US Mint sets took an even slower pace. The 2010 Silver Proof Set added 474 in this round compared to 801 in the last, and the 2010 Silver Quarters Set rose by 311 after increasing 659 previously.

The top selling commemorative silver dollars were the proofs. The Medal of Honor and US Army proofs advanced by 747 and 557 respectively. In the prior round, they had spiked by 1,264 and 796. Collectors for the uncirculated versions took in 163 of the Medal of Honor and 125 of the US Army dollars.

It is hard to say at this point whether the bullion 2011 Silver Eagles were speeding up or slowing down, since the last count was just taken on Thursday. By Tuesday, June 21, US Mint Authorized Purchasers bought another 808,500 coins and bumped June’s total up to 2,490,500. It seems as though June will end higher than May, since the monthly total on May 20 was 2,256,000. The Silver Eagles have topped 21.3 million for the year already. In record-breaking year 2010, it took until early August for the coins to reach that level.

The US Mint released the Vicksburg National Military Park five ounce silver bullion coin on Monday, June 20, but the first days’ sales numbers were not announced as of this writing. The status of the bullion Olympic National Park five ouncer also was left out of the US Mint sales report.
