Grand Canyon National Park 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin

Orders for the Grand Canyon 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin are quickly approaching their maximum limit of 27,000, according to the latest US Mint sales figures, while demand continues to boom for 2011 Proof Silver Eagles and 9/11 Silver Medals.

It should not take long for collectors to scoop up the remaining 738 Grand Canyon silver coins. That was all that remained after 2,045 of them sold during the past week, following news that the US Mint removed its order limits. The collector coin was released June 29 as the fourth issue in the America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin series.

But it was the 2011 Proof Silver Eagle that remained at the top of the demand chain with an impressive sales gain of 35,271. If the current pace is maintained, the Eagles will pass the 700K marker in the next round, since they were only 20,653 short of it this time. The collector Silver Eagles have been on the market for six weeks, and they already attained nearly 79% of the 860,000 orders for last year’s issue.

The other hot ticket items were the 9/11 Silver Medals, again. Their combined pick-up was 17,026, although that was short of the prior increase of 22,312. West Point medals continued to blaze stronger than those produced in Philadelphia, 11,857 to 5,169. So far, the US Mint sold 134,390 of the medals at the introductory price of $56.95. After 5 PM Eastern Time this Thursday, August 18, their price will rise to $66.95.

Investment-grade bullion Silver Eagles edged higher than their previous weekly gain for a second week in a row. Sales jumped by 880,500 compared to 845,500 and 716,500 previously, making August a hot, hot month. Another 15 days remain, and the total is already 1,984,500. Year-to-date sales come to 27,256,500.
