US Mint Sales: Proof American Silver Eagles Hit 860,000

2010 Proof American Silver Eagle coins seized 860,000 after climbing another 3,644 in this round of US Mint sales figures. Bullion Silver Eagles climbed even more, while silver sets, on the other hand, slowed.
An even number like 860,000 seems like a stopping point for the 2010 Proof Silver Eagles, but that would be hard to predict as returns, cancellations, and adjustments often follow a sell out. The US Mint stopped selling the proof coins back on Tuesday, December 28, when the total was at 834,879. Then they added 21,477 the following week and most recently 3,644. Although the total is higher, the amount of 2010-dated coins sold remained third highest for the proof series which debuted in 1986.
Bullion Silver Eagles are on fire. US Mint Authorized Purchasers started January with 1,696,000 and added another 1,661,000 this week to bring the total to 3,357,000. And, the month is not even halfway over. Another 235,500 more are needed to match the January 2010 level.
Silver sets cooled compared to their prior sales. The 2010 Silver Proof Set rose 5,007 versus 8,361 previously. The 2010 Quarters Silver Proof Set only gained 2,004 after advancing 3,613 in the last round.
The launch of the first 2011 silver numismatic product, the 2011 Silver Proof Set, is two weeks away with a scheduled release of January 25, 2011.
