US Mint Sales: Quarters Sets Improve, Silver Eagles Top 20 Million

US Mint silver coin salesNumismatic silver coins rebounded, according to the latest figures from the United States Mint. The 2010 silver quarters proof set achieved the biggest comeback, and the DAV commemoratives also climbed.

In fact, every collector coin and set outperformed their prior week’s levels. Perhaps it was the release of the US Mint Uncirculated Mint Set last Thursday, July 15, that drove up the numbers. The annual product is the second most popular set for collectors, and their release drew in more than 214,000 orders.

Bullion American Silver Eagles maintained a quick pace as well.

2010 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Sets™ jumped more than 5,000 to raise their total to 135,811. Their previous gain had been 3,801. Even the 2009 DC and Territories Quarters Silver Proof Set excelled by advancing 643, compared to 579.

In the individual coins arena, the 2010 Disabled American Veterans Silver Dollars picked up a combined total of 852. Proofs gained more than uncirculated, adding 624 vs 228. Previously they rose by 463 and the uncirculated crept up 203. The 2010 Boy Scouts of America Silver Dollar numbers did not change, and are still at their maximum mintage. However, the proof version is still for sale, in a waiting list capacity on the Mint’s online store.

Bullion American Silver Eagles keep trucking. So far, 1,935,500 sold in July and the year-to-date-total crossed the 20 million threshold. It is easy to predict that July will see the 2 million marker, since 11 days are left, but it will be harder to reach the 3 million level as happened in June. The Mint will have to sell 1,065,500 more to match June’s total. Monthly sales have acted like a yo-yo, starting high in January, falling in February, improving again in March and so on. Still, even lower 2010 months have been higher in sales than most months prior to 2010.
