US Mint Silver Coin Sales Slow in Transition to New Website

The United States Mint revamped its website last week by taking it off-line late Saturday night, Sept. 27, and re-launching a whole new look and ordering system on Wednesday, Oct. 1. The project, however, effected sales of numismatic products, illustrated in the latest sales stats below.

Top silver sellers included the 2014-W Uncirculated American Silver Eagle for the second week in a row. It added 2,730 to its total, which is now 199,247. In the prior report, the Silver Eagles jumped by 6,699. In second place, the 2014 Silver Proof Set gained 1,518 to reach 308,826, but that also paled in comparison to the previous round that showed it advancing by 2,081.

The only two numismatic silver products to outperform their week-over-week sales were two 2014-P Civil Rights Act of 1964 Silver Dollars. Consumers scooped up 115 and 49 of the proof and uncirculated versions respectively, after purchasing 79 and 49 of them previously.

One of the surprises in the charts below were the 2014 National Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Silver Coins. Despite being sold out since April 9, their sales numbers have been changing almost regularly since August. Only 400,000 could be sold, per the congressional coin act that authorized the coins.
