2013 Silver Proof Set Among Weekly Favorites, US Mint Sales Show

The 2013 Silver Proof Set was among coin collectors’ weekly favorites, the latest U.S. Mint sales stats show.

It has been approximately four weeks since the set launched, and demand for them is still going strong.

Collectors picked up 9,457 of the popular 14-coin Silver Proof Sets in this round. Though solid, that number was down from the 15,002 that were purchased during the prior week when there wasn’t a three-day holiday weekend competing with collectors’ attention. A big part of what attracts customers to the set is the 90% silver in seven specific coins. In all, buyers have ordered 223,934 sets since their debut on May 2, 2013. As a reminder, the 2013 Silver Proof Set price went down $7 to $60.95.

Not far behind the sets were 2013-W American Silver Eagle Proof Coins. Sales rose by 7,851 despite the fact that another Silver Eagle coin was about to launch and the individual proofs are competing against the 2013 American Silver Eagle West Point Two-Coin Set, at least through June 6. To date, the U.S. Mint has sold 538,811 individual 2013-W American Silver Eagle Proof Coins.

Speaking of the West Point set, its weekly sales topped all of the other numismatic silver products. The total sold rose by another 12,779 to hit 219,979 by Thursday, May 30. Since sales are ending in a matter of 7 days, a sharp spike of last minute purchases are expected if history repeats itself. When last year’s San Francisco set was ending, ordering erupted and more than 82,000 sold in the final week.
