2012-W American Silver Eagle Proof Coin

Several silver coins and related collector products from the United States Mint outperformed their prior weekly sales, including two of the three top sellers.

Leading U.S. Mint sales were 2012-W Proof Silver Eagle coins. On the heels of the 14,449 ordered in the previous round came another wave of 13,733 orders. This latest push put the new total at 395,458 and only 4,542 away from the 400K milestone.

Next came the proof Star-Spangled Banner Silver Dollars. Their upward tick was 1,678 in sales, which more than doubled the 694 purchased previously. Their counterpart, the uncirculated versions, climbed another 163 — nowhere close to the surge of 717 in the prior round.

The third highest selling silver product was the 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set. Collectors scooped up another 980. Last time, 894 had been taken. 109,767 sets in all, since their launch on January 10, have left the U.S. Mint’s warehouse.

The most action, however, has been in the bullion market. Since the price of silver on the London Fix has continued to hang out around $28 an ounce, 632,500 more American Silver Eagle coins were picked up over the past seven days, and the month of May became the second best-selling month in 2012 behind January. The tally for the month, as of May 30, grew to 2,750,000.

Next week’s report will include debut sales of the just released 2012-P El Yunque 5 ounce coin and starting sales of the Star-Spangled Banner Bicentennial Silver Dollar Set which is scheduled for release on Friday.
