Recently released figures from the U.S. Mint show a total of 3,001,000 One Ounce Silver Eagles sold in June 2010. This compares to a May 2010 total of 3,636,500, or a decline of 635,500.

Normally, a more than half million downward push would raise eyebrows. However, a more detailed look at the history of the Silver Eagles show that in the past, a majority of the months did not even come close to 635,500 in sales. A drop of that number is really only indicative of how well the bullion silver coins are selling this year –they were able to withstand such a decline and still rack up over 3 million in a single month. July 5, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

American Silver EagleThe production of 2010 American Eagle Silver Proof Coins and 2010 American Eagle Silver Uncirculated Coins remains up in the air, according to the latest news from the United States Mint.

The U.S. Mint updated is product schedule through to the end of this year and classified the releases of the two collector coins as "TBD," or To Be Determined.

The annual proof coins have been produced since the American Eagle series launched in 1986, with the uncirculated option added to the Mint’s product portfolio in 2006. However, the 2009s were cancelled as a result of "unprecedented demand" for the bullion version, which the Mint must strike by law "in quantities sufficient to meet public demand." The bullion eagles are intended for investors, and do not have the proof or uncirculated finishes nor the "W" mint mark. Read More…

Silver Pummeled as U.S. Weekly Prices Dive 7.4%

July 2, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Weekly Silver UpdateU.S. silver prices tumbled 7.4% on the week, falling the most since the 8.4% drop during the week ending February 5, 2010.

Much of the metal’s decline — 91.8 cents worth — occurred on Thursday as a volley of reports added to worries of an economic slowdown in the U.S. and China, triggering a large sell-off in commodities. Gold, platinum, palladium and silver were hit exceptionally hard.

"In addition to a measure of safe haven liquidation, the silver market also saw an aggressive wave of physical commodity market selling pressure," noted Neil Sloan on StockMarketsReview.com. "The bull camp hopes that the economic situation in the US will become severe enough to rekindle flight to quality interest in silver, but that could also put the silver market under additional near term pressure as the trade weighs economic uncertainty versus deflationary indications," added Sloan.

June 25, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

US Mint silver coin salesSales for U.S. Mint silver products were mixed last week, according to the most recent United States Mint statistics. Two out of five numismatic products outperformed their prior increases, and Silver Eagle bullion coins were hot as authorized buyers stocked up their inventory.

With less than one week left in the month, American Silver Eagles have been flying out of Mint’s doors, but beating May’s 3.6 million ounce record looks unlikely. Right now the June tally is at 2,533,500. That is 1,103,000 short of May’s number — the highest monthly level since 1986, and so far June’s weekly sales have not seen seven digit numbers. It does looks like June’s total will hit 3 million. Read More…
