US Mint Sales: New JFK Sets Nearing Sellout

September 17, 2015 by · 1 Comment

Early figures from the United States Mint revealed more than 40,000 of the 2015 John F. Kennedy Coin & Chronicles Set sold in the first hour of its release, and then sales reached 45,613 by the end of the day.

JFK Coin and Chronicles Set

With a limited mintage of 50,000 sets and a price tag of $57.95 each, the sets were estimated to sell fast, and they did. Tom Jurkowsky, director of the U.S. Mint’s Office of Corporate Communications, said in an email to CoinNews that 25,000 sold from the US Mint’s website in the first 10 minutes, and after the first hour, sales had exceeded 40,000 units.

The end of day total brought sales to 91.2% of their maximum.

At the time of this writing, the JFK sets were still available (talked about here) but with a back order and in-stock date of September 28.

In other collector silver products, the table below shows their latest sales stats as of Sunday, September 13.

  1. Dwight says:

ebay seller 1abfer was able to sell for $185 each of four individual JFK Coin & Chronicles Sets pre-sales as item #291546710354 sold on August 23 & 25, 2015. Their U.S. Mint issue price was $57.95 each. That means $185/$57.95 = 3.19X, i.e., an Instant 219% Windfall Profit for each set.
