White Mountain 5 Ounce Silver Coins Debut to Strong Sales

It was a busy week for silver coin collectors, judging by U.S. Mint sales stats. Among the top sellers were newly released numismatic 2013-P White Mountain National Forest 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins.

2013 American Silver Eagle West Point Two-Coin Set

Two weeks of sales remain for the 2013 American Silver Eagle West Point Two-Coin Set. Its sales through 3 PM ET on Thursday, May 23, stand at 207,200.

Debut sales hit 10,605 between their release on Thursday, May 16 and Monday, May 20. That kind of start proves there was pent up demand for the first 2013-dated America the Beautiful 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin since it beat inaugural sales of previous coins going all the way back to the launch of the 2011-P Glacier coin whose sales started at 10,680. And that is not even a fair comparison since it had two extra days on the market before its first sales were reported.

In addition to the collector version, discussed in this article, there is the bullion version of the White Mountain coin, first discussed here. It also had a very good week. The U.S. Mint’s network of Authorized Purchasers ordered another 10,600 of the coins, a number that is eerily close to the numismatics’ debut. These bullion strikes actually hit the market a few days earlier, on May 13. So, to-date the AP’s have scooped up a total of 23,300. That is more than final sales of the last two bullion issues for 2012 and it is approaching the final totals of the first three for 2012.

Getting back to the other top performing collectible silver products, the 2013 Silver Proof Set did the best, jumping by 15,002 to hit 214,477 in total sales. Next highest was the individually-sold 2013-W American Silver Eagle Proof Coin that cruised up by 14,876, bringing it latest total to 530,960.

Then there is the 2013 American Silver Eagle West Point Two-Coin Set, which added another 13,548. As of Thursday, May 23, collectors have scooped up 207,200 of these sets. Counting today, there are two weeks left of sales. Running daily sales totals shows buying is easing but that should reverse days before the sets go off sale on June 6.
