2011 Silver Eagle Proof Coin Sells Out

Collectors can no longer look to the United States Mint for the 2011-W American Silver Eagle Proof Coin. The proof coin, which was released on June 30, 2011, sold out Tuesday, November 22, 2011.

The latest United States Mint figures have their individual sales at 850,000. Combined with the 100,000 included in the 25th Anniversary American Silver Eagle Sets which sold out within hours of their October 27 launch, the mintage stands at 950,000.
Contrasted against past years — the proof Silver Eagles have been minted since 1986, this year’s mintage will go down as second highest of all-time. 2011 falls only behind the series’ debut year when the United States Mint rolled out the American Eagle coin program which also included an investment-grade bullion American Silver Eagle as well as bullion and proof American Gold Eagles. The Austrian Mint has released the sixth and final issue of its popular "Legends of Austria" series. The Du Lieber Augustin Silver Coin was released last month and is available now in either proof or special uncirculated condition.

The UK Royal Mint is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Britannia bullion coins and has released the one-ounce 2012 Britannia Silver Bullion coin with a special reverse design to mark the occasion.

Sales numbers from the United States Mint revealed a slightly slower week for all but one silver product, the 2011 Proof Silver Eagle, which was also the sales leader. Demand gently tapered for the Uncirculated Silver Eagle, while the 2011 Silver Proof Set is quickly closing in on a new milestone.

Collectors nudged Silver Proof Set sales up by 5,789 after taking in 6,766 in the previous week. The new total landed at 493,708 and was only shy of the 500K milestone by 6,292. Although weekly sales increases for collectible silver products were mixed in the latest figures released by the United States Mint, one product clearly shined above the rest, the 2011 Proof Silver Eagle. Collectors scooped up 17,701 in one week and not even the combined sales of the 2011 Silver Proof Set and the 2011 Uncirculated Silver Eagle came close to the Proof Eagle’s climb.
The Silver Proof Set and the Uncirculated Silver Eagle were the second and third top sellers, adding 6,766 and 4,767 respectively to their totals. Sales for the Proof Silver Eagle were down compared to the previous week, which surged by 22,110, but they were up for the set and uncirculated Eagle, because those previous gains were 4,961 and -12,464.
