US Mint Issues Consumer Alert on 9/11 Commemorative Dollar

A Consumer Alert was issued by the United States Mint today concerning a "10th Anniversary September 11th Commemorative Dollar" currently being sold by a company known as the National Collector’s Mint.

This alert comes in response to pleas from two New York Congressmen, Rep. Jerrold Nadler and Sen. Charles Schumer, who asked the US Mint to place a notice on its website informing customers of what they call "phony coins." Read More…

US Mint silver coin salesSales of 2011 American Silver Eagle bullion coins continued to climb in January as each new order marks a new record for the series. Demand for other US Mint coin products, however, generally declined, according to the latest round of statistics.

The bullion Silver Eagles’ total moved up to 4,724,000 after US Mint Authorized Purchasers bought another 136,000 since last Wednesday. 4.7 million is the new all-time highest monthly record for the silver coins. Read More…

US Mint 2011 Silver Proof Set Issued

The United States Mint today at noon ET issued its second major numismatic product of the year, the 2011 Silver Proof Set.

The 14-coin set, which features collector proofs of this year’s circulating coins with seven of them composed in 90% silver, is listed on the US Mint website for a price of $67.95. That is $11 more than last year’s issue which is still available for $56.95. The cost of silver is substantially more this year, accounting for a big portion of the price increase. Read More…

First among the silver product offerings is the release of the 2011 Silver Proof Set on January 25. This sets contains proof quality samples representative of the fourteen 2011 circulating coins of the United States. American Veterans Disabled for Life Silver Dollars History

2010 American Veterans Disabled for Life Silver Dollar ImagesThe 2010 American Veterans Disabled for Life Silver Dollars are officially no longer available from the United States Mint. They went off-sale on December 13, 2010, at 5PM ET to allow the US Mint a window of two weeks in order to fulfill any outstanding orders before the end of last year, which the Mint is required by law to do.

Sales of the silver commemorative coins began earlier in the year on February 25. They were struck to honor American Veterans who were disabled for life as a result of their duty. This includes those who died while serving, those who died after living with injuries received in the course of their duty and those who are alive today, but still bear the wounds and scars they suffered as a result of their service.
