Silver Proof Sets Jump, US Eagles Score 2nd Best Month in 2009

US Mint silver coin sales stats Silver coin news of the week is the smashing success for 2009 Silver Proof Sets and bullion 2009 American Silver Eagle Coins. The latter passed 16 million this year -- 16,409,500 to be exact!

With July not yet over, silver eagles have already entered the record book for the second best month in 2009 with a total of 2,585,000 sold. (February leads with 3,132,000.)

From a Wednesday (7/22) to Wednesday (7/29) standpoint, the US Mint sold 560,000 more silver eagles to its authorized purchasers compared to 400,000 between the Wednesday's of 7/15 and 7/22.

2009 Silver Proof Sets continue to march forward at a brisk pace. From their launch on Friday, July 17, through to Sunday, July 29, a total of 350,572 have been ordered by collectors. 79,200 more were purchased since the last report.
