2009 Silver Eagles Top 25,000,000
November 18, 2009 by Silver Coins Today
The newest United States Mint sales figures indicate collectors are paying more attention to silver coins. Only two silver numismatic products failed to outperform their prior week numbers. And while bullion 2009 American Silver Eagle sales softened slightly in the last seven days, they did top 25,000,000 for the year and reinforced their dominance.
In getting down to specifics, 2009 US Mint Silver Proof Set sales have again outpaced prior figures, and for the second straight week. 12,429 more were added for a new total of 57,817. The sets are the biggest unit gainer in the group of US Mint silver coin collector products.
Braille Silver Dollars again came in strong. Last week's report showed that the individual proof and uncirculated coins enjoyed improved gains. This week's report has all four production options batting better -- good news for the National Federation of the Blind, as $10 per coin sold goes to it in order to further programs that promote Braille literacy. In total, 208,272 of the commemorative silver coins have left US Mint doors. As another reminder, all Braille product sales end on Dec. 11 at 5:00 PM ET.
Silver Eagles are at 1.6 million for the month and 25,006,500 for the year. Their latest seven-day sales jumped by 750,000, which is down from the prior 850,000. With silver prices hitting new highs this week, next week's numbers will be something to watch.
The following two tables have the latest US Mint stats for collector silver coins and sets and bullion silver eagles.
