US Mint Weekly Silver Coin Demand Climbs
August 26, 2009 by Silver Coins Today
Collector silver coin sales increased for all but one US Mint offering during the seven days ended Aug 23, new sales figures from the Mint reveal.
The sole under performer was the 2008-dated Annual Uncirculated Dollar Coin Set. 644 new sets were purchased compared to the prior 859.
As has become common in weekly reports, 2009 Silver Proof Set figures continue to sparkle. Sales were up 17,845 over the previous 17,277. A total of 441,577 silver sets have been purchased since they became available July 17.
Performing well also were the Bullion American Silver Eagles, although the latest seven day tally is down significantly (most likely due to the recent volatile swing in silver prices). Numbers rose by 275,000 versus the prior 475,000 jump. As reported on Silver Coins Today on Tuesday, the Silver Eagles passed 18 million for the year. They are on pace to set a smashing 2009 record.
The following two tables have the latest US Mint stats for collector silver coins and sets and bullion silver eagles.
